For your essay, you will write a five paragraph analysis of the role poverty plays in the text. The prompt is:
Manchild in the Promised land largely focuses on issues of poverty. How has Sonny's social class and upbringing affected his life, particularly his education and involvement with legal troubles. How did his social class impact how he sees the world?

Writing Thesis Statements

A thesis statement is one sentence that establishes the focus of your essay. In an essay for English class, your thesis should always appear at the end of your introduction and it should be restated (worded in a new way) in your conclusion.
